McCracken
I studied Archaeology and Anthropology at the University of
Toronto and British prehistory as a post-graduate at the University of
Sheffield. My first post was as Assistant Director of the Chesterfield
Archaeological Unit. I left Chesterfield to become Director of the south West
London Archaeological Unit (Surrey Archaeological Society) which became part of
the Deptment of Greater London Archaeology as an Area Officer, Museum of London
in 1983. During the 1990’s I worked for
a private archaeological company in Sweden, Arkeologikunsult, where I became
Chief Archaeologist. I returned to London in 1997 and returned to teaching
archaeology for Birkbeck College, Richmond Upon Thames College and a number of
adult education centres.
I have worked as a field archaeologist throughout the British
Isles and in Sweden and have directed a number of large excavations in both the
London area and in Sweden. My current interests lie in British Prehistory and
in battlefield archaeology.
I
am a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries London, a Member of the Institute of
Field Archaeologists and Fellow of the
Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.
